Interactions with Meta’s AI Chatbot will now be used to even further influence personal algorithms. Meta will be using the information gathered from these conversations to further influence and tailor the content and ads users see. 

This new direction in data usage will begin in December without any opt-out option. Meta has said this is only for those 1 billion people who actively use its generative AI, though the rollout will start in the US.

Frankly, we assumed this information was already forming the personalization of users’ feeds, but we guess it’s good to know that disengaging with Meta AI could be the work around. As advertisers, we’re grateful for audience refinement, but hope that it doesn’t come with a greater cost of privacy.

Reddit + G2 for B2B Partnership

Reddit and G2 are coming together to give businesses on G2 easy access to Reddit Pro (essentially the “Business Suite” of Reddit) through an integration that builds their Reddit business profile using verified G2 data. 

As AI continues to change search methods and software purchasing behavior, this new channel opportunity offers B2B advertisers the chance to expand the trust they have earned on review sites like G2 into new communities on Reddit. 

The partnership should make it more efficient to manage brand visibility across the two platforms. B2B users will then be able to use other Reddit features including keyword and reporting tools, forums and ads.

For companies with a strong G2 presence, it makes sense to extend your visibility where even more conversations about products and services are taking place. It also makes sense for companies who have wanted to try out Reddit as an advertising platform, but have been unsure how to start.

AI in the context of search, can answer a lot of questions, but for trusted reviews and recommendations, there is no comparison to Reddit subs and G2 insights, this partnership brings those two worlds together.

AI giants are releasing their own web browsers, but researchers are finding vulnerabilities

On October 21st OpenAI launched ChatGPT Atlas, a proprietary browser that integrates their AI into the larger web experience. Users can converse with AI while searching and visiting websites and even ask it to perform tasks on their behalf. It’s a comparable technology to Perplexity’s Comet browser which also launched in October. (Read our report card on Comet in the Analytics Roundup by Nico Brooks.)

AI companies are looking to fundamentally shift how people use the internet, and on its face, these developments seem like giant leaps forward in the progression of the web. While all this sounds promising, there are always caveats. It took just a few days for researchers at NeuralTrust to discover that Atlas can be jailbroken by “disguising a prompt instruction as an url to visit.”

That means that the agent’s behavior could be hijacked and made to perform nefarious acts like “opening an attacker-controlled Google lookalike to phish credentials” or “navigate to Drive and execute deletions using the user’s authenticated session.”

The AI arms race is resulting in technologies being pushed live at a rapid rate by every major player, and at times before having undergone the extensive stress tests necessary to ensure proper functionality and security. We’re still in the Wild West of the AI era, and we need to keep our wits about us before nodding off by the fire and blindly putting our faith in these technological advancements.
